No.1: Plant a Bulb Lasagne

Create a Bulb Lasagne for blooms from Spring to early Summer

Medium Recipe:

2parts peat free compost, 1part top soil & 1part horticulture grit

Bulbs:

Narcissus 'Tete Boucle' & Tulipa 'Queensland' which is partnered with the smaller flowers of Puschkinia scilloides & Crocus tommasinianus 'Barr's Purple'

As the Narcissus fades, the Tulip will provide the colour into the next season.

For early summer, we have the Allium 'Nigrum' & 'Purple Sensation' partnered alongside Muscari.

Plant the Bulbs built in layers according to size, larger bulbs are approx 10cm from the top, with the smaller bulbs planted approx 5cm from the top. If you have a larger Allium bulb, these should be planted below the Narcissus and Tulip.

No.2: Take Hardwood Cuttings

How to take Hardwood Cuttings

Taking Hardwood Cuttings is a fantastic way of getting free plants, plus a great time to do it so you have extra plants for next year's garden.

I'm using root powder, but if you don't have it on hand, don't let that stop you! Just remember to check on the compost now and again to make sure it's moist.

No.3: Divide your Herbaceous Perennials

How to divide your plants to increase your stock

It's a great time to divide your herbaceous perennials, plants such as ornamental grasses, iris etc.

There are lots of health benefits for the plant plus, you get a load of extra ones for free!

Plant just under th esurface of the grass in bunches of bulbs.

These will look amazing planted in mass as they come up in clumps. Snowdrops bursting through a snow-covered lawn are spectacular too

Prepare your lawn for Winter

No.5: Lawn Prep for next year

First, scarify using a leaf rake then aerate using a fork. Spread your top dressing using a levelling rake or the flat side of a soil rake

Top dressing mix:

Sand, compost, topsoil - mix well and add some lawn fertiliser. Here I'm using Phostrogen organic lawn food.
